5 Reasons Why Concerts Sound So Bad

In this blog, he explains why concerts sound really bad. I will summarize the 5 reasons below

1 - The vocal isn't featured- the instruments are so loud that you cant hear the vocals, which is the main reason why people go to concerts

2 - Over-reliance on subwoofers - adding too much effects

3 -Too much kick - the level of the kick drum is too high

4 -Low intelligibility - you can hear the vocal but cant understand what they're saying

5-  Bad mixing habits - It looks like the sound men have never listened to the band they are mixing for

Mixing vs Mastering Comparison

This video demonstrates that mastering is useless if the mix is bad. Many people believe that mastering is "magic" and that it will improve the quality of your song. Some people say that if you think that is true, then you have been misled due to the fact that mastering only makes tiny improvements to the quality. Watch the video to find out more!

3 Differences Between Live and Studio Mixing

There are some major differences between live mixing vs studio mixing - I have summarized the 3 below

1 - Different type of equipment

In a recording studio, they have a desk that have 2 types of faders on the same track that are called line in mixers.

2 - Digital studio desk

Due to the fact that technology has improved thought the years people have been using digital mixing desks or a computer instead of a old analog mixers. With a digital mixing desk you can save all of your settings and leave them exactly where you are in case if another engineer wants to use the computer after you. One mixing desk has all of the effects like - EQ, compression, auto tune, distortion and the other one only has a  control surface. that looks like a mixing desk, but it only controls the DAW (digital audio workstation) you're working in - like Pro Tools.

3 - Difference between time and creativity.

In the studio, you would be able to to get a band and edit them to make them sound good by using effects like reverb, delay, auto tune, EQ and mix it together and tweak it to make it sound more balanced and higher quality for the radio listeners.

How To Start a Pro Tools Session

In this article I learned how to start a new session in Pro Tools. This will come in handy when you first start to learn how to use Pro Tools as a beginner - I will summarize how to do it.  First you want to start a new session file to keep track of your recordings - like drums, vocals , guitars, ect. Most recording engineers like to create a new folder with song name then saving the session and some like to have one big long session called linear which all of the songs are laid out on the same session file. Next you will be asked to select a file format - for compatibailty from mac to windows (or vice versa) a .wav file is your best option. Some engineers like to add a masterfader - which controls the overall volume of the song. After that you add some audio/instumental tracks and you are ready to record!

He explains that in order to have clean vocals, you must use a recording booth to record a whole band to get the live feeling or record band members individually. He also expresses that a good quality mic is a must have. A pop filter is also very important to help break up air so the singer dosent sound breathy and distorted.
